The animated eyes and mouth really go a long way to enhance the effect.
They’ve recently started putting blinking eyes on some Disney characters at the park and it makes a big difference, even if you don’t notice the change right away.
The mechanic for the blinking is really cool too, since the humans actually have their heads inside the character head. I won't spoil the magic for you if you don't want me to, because once you see it you can't unsee it.
I'm assuming that costumes like that polar bear don't directly detect the wearer's expression yet, so I guess there's a set of facial controls in one of the hands?
Yep, probably the person's hand is in there like it would be with any puppet, and there's one finger stuck through a pull cord for the eyes and the thumb for controlling the mouth.
Exactly. It took me a while watching Minnie Mouse doing a performance during a show. I was like “something is different…”. Then realized she was blinking.
In VR they've started having headsets with eye-tracking and seeing the players in VRchat for example that have it is so much more immersive than the ones who don't. Like someone starts talking and you see someone else's eyes dart over to the speaker. Or you turn to someone that was looking your way and they don't move their head but avert their eyes like they noticed you noticed them. It's amazing the body language conveyed thru eyes alone
I’m confused as to the mechanics of the suit. I thought the puppeteer’s left arm was operating the head till you see both arm and head move at the same time.
Only one arm seems to be in use at a time. The operator inside must be able to switch back and forth, pulling his arm out of one sleeve and putting the other arm in the other sleeve. It allows him one hand free inside the costume to operate the head. I’m impressed as that must take a great deal of coordination.
This is it. You can see the transition while the first girl is leaving. Head does final blink on her leaving, right arm does big wave to cover that face isn't animated and you can see the left hand move as the hand enters the glove. Switch to big left arm wave and then, after a few seconds, the head starts animating again.
Thank goodness I'm using my animation degree for something. Not animating, definitely not, but I can see when a puppets arms are switching.
Yup, that's exactly when the switch happened. You can see the arms shaking just a tiny bit as the puppeteer shimmies their arm from one sleeve to the other. Very very smooth though, they must have a lot of practice in that suit.
That’s incredible. He even grips the left fist as the right is still waving, potentially signaling to the photographers that he’s ready for the next group from the other side.
Considering how high quality that costume is, it may have a cooling system inside. They aren't allowed to be in them for very long because of safety anyway
Or maybe the arms themselves have like a little pull thingy or lever inside them that can control the expressions? Could be way off, can’t say I know too much about poopetry
It’s insane how much articulation the head of that suit has, as well as how fluidly the actor is able to use it. It almost looks like a real, living creature at points, though I imagine that’s in large part due to humans having a good part of our brains hardwired for facial expressions and cues.
Still really cool to see though.
I had my photo taken with this guy at the coke factory in atlanta! I remember he was exactly this animated and during my picture he actually bit my head which i thought was hilarious
So I played the bunny at my local shopping center for a season or two. If it's like mine there's a mechanism that kinda hangs down in front of you, I was able to use my month/nose for the facial features and I had buttons on my hands that helped with different facial features.
Only bad thing about it was how hot you were, even with fans and stuff it was insane. I loved it, I had similar freedom to this guy/girl and it made it go by really quick when people would play along.
Be nice to this guys, they try there best will being 100+ degrees in these types of suits
this one looks to be a bigbird type mechanism. one arm in the head and the other in an arm. you can see the dude switch arms at one point in the video.
imagine having your arm stuck up in the air for that long. no wonder the dude switched haha.
No coke museum in Atlanta
Edit: actually not sure but they do have the same polar bear person to take photos with. But, Atlanta is the home of coke and where it was founded
This would have made me so happy as a kid, you wouldn't believe. I always loved a good escape from reality. It's really cool to me even now, but the eyes and the performance and the fluffy bear, I tell you, drugs for little me.

Love this! We are grown and had more fun at the World of Coca Cola than about anywhere we’ve been on vacation! Have pictures with the Coca Cola Bear also!
Men seem to be less engaged with suit characters - I think there's often a perceived need to look cool and not engage with the suspension of disbelief. I worked with suit characters like this for years and grown women would adore them but men would often go "pfft, dumb costume." Most suit performers are also women (which I think they forget, and which the public doesn't know) and there's a vulnerability issue in that you have very limited visibility and mobility inside the suit and people do unexpected things. Interacting with women isn't likely to get you pushed over or shoved, but men are (generally) more unpredictable and I've seen guys punch, shove, kick and spit at suit characters even while sober.
Women give better facial reactions for pictures. The guys faces literally didn't change the entire time even though funny stuff was happening. By interacting with the women he gets a reaction and a better candid picture.
Imagine being so upset about something that you have to comment on random internet posts to vent your frustrations.
Here’s an idea - Biden being President isn’t your real issue. It’s something (or several somethings) else. Seek therapy. It helps.
Lol literally Biden is the only person that came to mind when the bear started touching people. Only the bear isn’t creepy as fuck.
Why are you so mad that people point out that? Kind of sounds like you have rage issues
Oh man this is way better than my experience with the polar bear. We had our company Christmas party at WOCC one year and they paid to have the polar bear there ( totally different suit, mind you) AND THEY PET ME i look horrified in the picture realizing a man in a bear costume is just petting my head
Maybe it's the difference in bears bc this one is way cuter than the one at wocc. Like him petting her head is obvious. The one at wocc no one realized why i had a horrified face at first since he pet the back of my head mid picture
I don't believe this is a traditional "costume," but a giant puppet like Big Bird. There are likely a few interior levers that control the movement of the jaw and the eyelids.
He's quite good.
We went to see him back in October, it was great! He bit my SIL’s partner’s head and when I thanked him for the picture he bowed. Unfortunately the pictures didn’t turn out, but I’ll treasure the memory
Yeah that I think it’s not okay for random strangers to put their hands on you if they feel like it regardless of what stupid Coca Cola product they are promoting
The animated eyes and mouth really go a long way to enhance the effect. They’ve recently started putting blinking eyes on some Disney characters at the park and it makes a big difference, even if you don’t notice the change right away.
The blinkimg eyes really bring it to life
The mechanic for the blinking is really cool too, since the humans actually have their heads inside the character head. I won't spoil the magic for you if you don't want me to, because once you see it you can't unsee it.
strings glued to their eyelids attached to a pulley system to move they cartoon eyes.
Glue would be inhumane. They are sewn to the pulley ropes.
Yes, but where the trigger is, is unique and cool.
You’re worried about “spoiling the magic”? You’ve already revealed that there’s a person inside a suit, so…
a *WHAAAAT*?
And there's a spooky skeleton inside that person!!!
Skeleton man!
Damn I wasn't ready for that! PRICELESS!! 💯👍⭐🤪💕
Wait it’s a SUIT?!
I assumed they kept swapping arms up to the head…hmmm, now I need to go research.
[удалено]
They're talking about for Disney characters, which do not arm swap.
Derp. Obvious in retrospect. Thanks! I'll just remove it, better to not confuse others.
>!The trigger is attached to their hand. They open and close their hand to blink their eyes.!<
Yeah ok that makes sense. The thumbs didn't exactly look mobile from what I remember.
You might not notice it, but your brain does.
Exactly. It took me a while watching Minnie Mouse doing a performance during a show. I was like “something is different…”. Then realized she was blinking.

An exceptional amount as the head is very expressive!
Blinking eyes 👀

Good eye! It's like a magician's sleight of hand.
>Only one arm seems to be in use at a time. I know that feeling.
Username checks out? At least it's a gun arm, right?
And physical effort, how is he not suffocating under that costume
Considering how high quality that costume is, it may have a cooling system inside. They aren't allowed to be in them for very long because of safety anyway
Not to mention that slick transition he makes at 0:30
Or maybe the arms themselves have like a little pull thingy or lever inside them that can control the expressions? Could be way off, can’t say I know too much about poopetry
uh this is clearly a bear
The jaw opens the mouth, when the human opens his jaws, the mouth opens.
Remarkable….
He actually clenches his cheeks to activate the head.
This is freaking adorable and and as a grown ass woman i would love a photo like this.
Relevant [XKCD](https://xkcd.com/37/)
Is there ever *not* a relevant XKCD?
I actually do this and speak this way often. And I live me some XKCD
This one always makes me smile. https://c.tenor.com/ixMb99uVsIUAAAAd/cocacola-coke.gif
That's the end of the original post you're commenting on...?
adorable!
That’s literally this post. Your comment on this post literally contains the 2nd half of this post.
> grown ass woman What about the rest of your body?

Me toooooooo
Bear: "So, how YOU doin'?"
Someone give this guy a raise
Should he get 8 dollars? Are you mad? Just because we required a college degree, it doesn't mean he shouldn't be thankful he has a job.
We call this exhibit "when people don't recognize sarcasm"

Seen this a million times and I only just noticed the little chuckle he has with himself when he gave the lady in green a scare
What lady in green?
My 13 year old has had a little Coca Cola bear since he was a baby. It’s name is George and it’s seen better days but will never be replaced
I still have a polar bear plush from like 20 years ago~ probably, his name was just coca tho lol I wasn't that imaginative when I was 10
I had my photo taken with this guy at the coke factory in atlanta! I remember he was exactly this animated and during my picture he actually bit my head which i thought was hilarious
Yes! He did the same thing to me! And this silly face too. Such a great experience.
He rlly said: :D

Yet when I start petting girls in the gift shop, I get escorted out by security.
Is this in Las Vegas?
Not sure about this specific bear, but there is one at Disney Springs in Orlando, FL in the Coca Cola Store. If you ever go, he's on the second floor.
Thanks, I knew they had one at the Coke Museum in Georgia, but the surroundings didn't match.
No coke museum in Atlanta Edit: actually not sure but they do have the same polar bear person to take photos with. But, Atlanta is the home of coke and where it was founded
There is a museum called the World of Coke. It’s in Atlanta near the aquarium.
He loves the ladies *
Yeah, that immediately creeped me out seeing as the first person looks to be a teenager in hs. The cheek touching we v weird to me.
Glad I’m not the only person who thought this. He’s most likely trying so hard for the attractive women.
Totally, no evidence of him touching the fellas 🤷♂️
He was sniffing the one guy
The bite of '87 caught in 4k
The part where he bites her head gets me everytime.
I want a picture with this bear. So damn cute.
This would have made me so happy as a kid, you wouldn't believe. I always loved a good escape from reality. It's really cool to me even now, but the eyes and the performance and the fluffy bear, I tell you, drugs for little me.

When you already know the video and you're just waiting for the *nom*.
From my experience (backstage at Disney) that's probably a 5'4" woman. Look at the apparent height of the shoulders of the person inside.
It's almost not creepy to be that touchy when you have a costume on.
Since videos like this are always better with sound, [here it is after 5 seconds of Googling](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItmgRr-hBww).
かわいい!
That is so cute I am deceased <3
All i can think of is that one video of it biting a woman’s head lmao
You mean.. the end of this video?
Exactly. You know, that one time.
A living animatronic. I love this!
Ok, I have one more thing in my bucket list. Where is this so I may get a picture with the coco cola mascot?
There’s one in Atlanta at The World of Coke but I think they have him in Las Vegas and Florida too.
He's also really freaking good at his job.
as wholesome as this is I'm going to have night terrors of this
Are there more videos?
W h e r e c a n i g e t t h i s j o b
>This guys love his job When a furry's dream come true.
Well Hell, can you blame him? If it me? Yeah I'm going to jail. Guaranteed! 💘👀💞
This would be a fun job to have as a serial killer
Anyone notice how he's interacting with the girls only...

Yea I'm getting creepy vibes tbh.
He’s in that suit jerkin off
I see he got a couple of pointers from president Biden
Imagine being so upset about something that you have to comment on random internet posts to vent your frustrations. Here’s an idea - Biden being President isn’t your real issue. It’s something (or several somethings) else. Seek therapy. It helps.
Its a joke about how Biden likes to sniff and grab little girls. Tons of pictures and videos of it exist, its not like its a secret.
This post has nothing to do with Joe Biden.
Lol no it doesn’t, that’s the joke.
Lol literally Biden is the only person that came to mind when the bear started touching people. Only the bear isn’t creepy as fuck. Why are you so mad that people point out that? Kind of sounds like you have rage issues
Not everything needs to be politicized.
Ger-hyuck!
I get in trouble for pawing women?
Oh man this is way better than my experience with the polar bear. Aw. It's the Coke bear. What's his name? DiaBeatty? DiabeTed? Lil Type 2? Diabetes, Jr?
Thanks, I hate disgusting corporate pandering
I’m sorry but isn’t that bear to white to be working for Coca-Cola?
Talented puppeteer!
Baked af 🗿
I think I’m in love with him.
Is this in Vegas?
Awesome
Adorableee☺️
I need more of this!!!
I love World of Coke
I was expecting the nom.
I love his job.
Cocaine was defiantly involved here.
"I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me..."
This is awesome!
I feel like that guy would be fun to hang out with.
Hol up a sec, lemme taste your head. Total polar bear move.
hahaha i love this bear
Probably the same guy as Grinch at Universal Studios Orlando.
No these are the vinegar monsters from doctor who
must be nice making people smile
I don't believe this is a traditional "costume," but a giant puppet like Big Bird. There are likely a few interior levers that control the movement of the jaw and the eyelids. He's quite good.
All I can think of is how one bad day could turn this into a Panda Cheese commercial.
Him nomming on the woman's head never fails to make me laugh
Career goals

I love his job
lmao
Bear in the big blue house vibes
give this man a raise
I hope (s)he gets paid well too - guess they could afford it. I've respect for those people, they surely don't experience pleasant only.
damn bear bit my daughter's head. (of course I didn't have my camera ready and he wouldn't do it again).
The fast waves are freaking awesome. Also the expressions in the face are on point. I really wanna know how that mask works.
If I saw this as a kid I'd definitely say: I wanna be a mascot
This is genuinely one of the most wholesome things I've seen in quite awhile :) <3
It sucks in those suits. It's hot it's stuffy and most of all you have 17 inches of sweat at your feet
😂😂cutee.. A simple act of kindness could brighten up your day
The comedic timing on the finger taste to swallowing the whole head was perfect.
Aww! I want him to visit me!
OMG, I just wanna hug this bear 🐻

It’s the second half of this video?
Oh, terribly sorry, my phone froze before it could finish playing and looped back to the start again
I hate being touched so the idea of having this job where I could get even for every time I've ever been touched is so amazing. Damn I'm jealous.
