That duck helped rake in over [7.6 million dollars.](https://globalnews.ca/news/3799814/toronto-giant-rubber-duck-generated-money/)
That 200,000 rental was well worth it.
We definitely achieved step 4 here.
Step 5: purchase second duck and double profits
Step 6: sell it to other countries and take over the world
3: Have fun?
Step 3 is invest in Lakefront Property.
Thank you, sir
Goddd… I was sitting here reading this like, why is no one saying *how* it generated revenue, what the heck
And then I realized I’m an idiot because that’s a link there, not just a pretty pink font lol
Even without the massive profit, I would consider it a public dopamine/endorphin generator. Who wouldn’t be a little happier seeing a huge goofy duck floating out there on the water?
I would be happy to fund this as a taxpayer
Divided out among everyone who pays taxes, absolutely worth it.
Yeah it’d be < $1 increase on everyone’s taxes
Canada has like 40 million people
So it would be like.. half a cent increase.
"you're watching the Canada channel! the only channel in canada!!"
This is a momentous day for Canada, and therefore, the rest of the world.
Bold of you to assume everyone pays tax
Yeah that's still <$1
Much better than a oversized military.
America could buy like three million seven hundred sixty-seven thousand five hundred rubber duckies for what we spend on the military every year.
But we're reasonable people. We demand merely two million duckies.
[james. we have to talk about the ducks](https://youtu.be/uYOmtEcZ1lk)
Remember seeing his videos, pretty funny at the time, shame that I can't really look at them the same way anymore after he got outted as a rapist.
That very "oversized" military you feel smug enough to criticize is what allows weaker countries like Canada to ignore their own defense. Pretty pathetic and very Canadian to criticize the militarism of the country they depend on militarily.
How many countries depend on Canada for defense? Zero. Canada isn't even solely responsive for its own defense.
How many countries depend on the US for defense? Literally dozens, directly and indirectly, including Canada, most of Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and others.
US defense spending is reflective of the fact that the US is a hugely important country that has to defend its own interests as well as the interests of other countries in its sphere of influence.
Putting aside the blatant racism against Canada, Canada don't really pick fights they don't need to just relief missions mostly to make sure citizens are safe so ig countries and their leaders don't depend on Canada but rather the countries' people. idk what you value but I think the people are pre important. •-•
canada bombed the baldwins and scotts a dick
Dang ig Canada isn't as weak as homie ^^^ made it out then.
fuck amerika too
This South Park reference is so old, people actually missed it.
>racism against canada
No, I’m not. Because “Canadian” isn’t a fucking race, you spoon.
My bad ill just say "putting aside the blatant being a jerk to Canadians exclusively." you knife.
The word you’re looking for is “xenophobic”
Why not just say that next time instead of making me reply 4 times for nothing. Thanks for the boost in vocabulary.
"Weaker countries like Canada"
Ok man, not to say that the Canadian military is the greatest, but it is #16 most powerful military despite its really small size and they've won the majority of the wars they partook in.
It's oversized military wasn't being used for defense, but for bombing brown children in third world countries.
Just as Im happy to pay for a minister's family's golf trip in Scotland on a private jet /s
But look how cute he is <3
Thank goodness it is a duck. If they had made a giant Canadian Goose it would be in America shitting on every sidewalk.
Is it Ge-off or Jeff?
What ever you prefer.
Goddamn cobra chickens!
For no reason? It is great morale booster everytime you see it
As a Canadian tax payer, I don't mind at all ;)
It's just Ducky
yeah it cost you like half a cent to make it along w/ everyone else.
For real, I don't mind paying for this.
It's cheaper and funnier than most wastes of cash.
The rubber duck was made by the city of toronto and paid for by it's residents. The event it was created for generated $7.6million. So yeah, this was a great investment.
Horrible for the environment tho
Why is it bad for the environment?
Not exactly biodegradable
This is gonna be the next trojan horse
"Honey, the Canadians left is a giant rubber duck...what do we do with it?"
"Bring it inside of course."
Honestly even if there’s an invading army inside, it’s kinda worth
Who knows. If they conquer your country, what’s stopping them from using your industry to mass produce more weaponized ducks.
It’s a win win. We get to see more giant ducks
As Canadian, I have no issue with this.
I see it as art. More fun than a statue of some old guy.
Or some female holding a torch
Honestly kinda surprised the French didn’t have another revolt after that. Couldn’t have been cheap
I’m pretty sure it was publicly funded, like the architect went around door to door, metaphorically
Interesting. Good to know
FINALLY! SOMETHING WORTH BEING BORN HERE FOR!
All the Canadians flocking here being like "I don't mind this at all."
Literally, every Canadian approves of this (including myself).
I personally have seen the giant rubber duck. It was glorious.
What part of Canada is it in
Acually it was rented, they spent that money on a rental.
Duck's trying his best ok
Well, we loves ya too bud!
That's like half a dollar out your taxes, you good
more like < 1 penny
I did the math its half a penny
James Veitch is that you?
Damn! You beat me to it. Veitch's duck story is his #2 in my book. The best is the guy who called up insisting James was responsible for handling a problem with his apartment.
Shame he got outted as a rapist, used to enjoy those sketches of his.
India has a Prime Minister who just fly around the world for no reason
Rather that than a billionaires pockets being lined
Australia does too, we have a rubber duck race in my state where people buy a duck and they all get thrown in the river and race each other
We have that in my home town to. It's called the duckey 500. All proceeds go to charity. It was hilarious ever year watching the stupid this float down the river
I am Canada tax payer, and I approve of this
As a future tax payer I will gladly pay for cool stuff like this
I'm a Canadian taxpayer, I am happy with this spending.
Canadian tax dollars at work, people…
ba-ba-ba bubberducky bubberducky bubberducky bubberducky bubberducky bubberduck
Better than the pockets of politicians like the US budget that isn’t defense
Fun fact: the US spends most of its national budget on health-care and social security programs.
That mighy be where they spend it but most of it never reaches the people that need it, it just ends up in some executive's pocket or gets wasted in some other way.
The US spending money on things like healthcare, social security and education is like a little kid running the tap for 2 minutes instead of brushing their teeth. You could just actually fix it instead of pretending and it wouldn't cost you a penny more than you are already spending pretending to do it.
Better than a billionaire that goes to space for no reason.
How is that 200 thousand?
Because it is 6 stories tall and weighs 30,000 pounds. Also, there’s not enough demand thats they can be manufactured in such quantity that economy of scale comes into effect.
Only 200 thousand, we need a billionaire to decide to dump their fortune into these things
Tourism and City Beautification. Have you heard of them?
Bragging rights! Who else has a giant duck like that?
We sent our frenemy trudou a eye opening email Eh we had to resort to calling him a very very naughty name... stinky face.
I remember when this thing was in Long Beach Harbor, right where i live
We had a smaller inflatable one that would be sent down the river, then collected and reused the next year in Pittsburgh, PA, but i think a few years ago somebody shot it with a bb gun or something. It popped :/
200k is nothing in terms of tax
I actually got to see this
You're goddamn right we do
That duck made more money then you ever will lol
Well actually this duck I'd private owned. Makes its way from city to city. The amount of tourism money that this thing draws is insane. We had in my city about 10 years ago. For a couple months. Every single weekend looked like a festival was going on. The downtown area was slammed and all the bars were totally packed, far more than usual.
W don’t need roads. We need ducks
I think this is better than the "World's largest statue" here in India.
The return on investment in terms of generated economic activity was approximately 38-fold, I don't think any Ontario taxpayer (the federal gov didn't pay for it, it was the Ontario gov) is resentful towards it.
Brings to mind Kermit singing Rubber duckie you're the one!
this is a modern world wonder
For anyone interested, also see the Voice of Fire controversy of 1989.
10/10 civil engineering
Idk if yalll know but $200,000(CAD) is cheap-average in terms of art installation. And they all end up “floats around for no reason”
The ducky there is doing his/her best, get off its back
Keep in mind that there are roughly 27.2M taxpayers in Canada, so that cost everybody just under 1 cent. Worth it.
He’s trying his best!
I would pay for him with my own organs
Finally, something worth it
America: recreational works using tax money should be grand and last forever, like a national park or large statue
Canada: yeah the people love this duck we made them pay for.
I'd rather have a tourist attraction that helps generate millions of dollars than bombing brown people, giving tax cuts to the wealthy, having an impractical healthcare system that costs patients a fortune to get care and is actually much more expensive than universal healthcare, having a former president that spent about $141,000,000 of taxpayer money on golfing at his own resort, or having an insanely bloated military budget.
Don’t know all the details but the duck travels. I live in US and the duck was in Pittsburgh a few summers back on a river. Very cool and my daughters and mom loved it. It’s huge.
Think of the size of the duck we could have if we didn't waste so much money on wars.
at least their taxes aren't going to turning middle eastern children into plasma
Jokes on them. I am going to steal it.
*Angry Herondale noises*
This was the PERFECT meme format for this lmao
People in Canada get tangible things in exchange for their tax dollars? I'm all in.
This image is wrong, all three should be uncontrollably laughing
I wanna live in Canada, just to be able to fund that duck)
I remember when this came to LA there acually is some good graffiti I saw of the duck
I'd be proud to know that my government is putting my money into an investment such as this.
Too bad I'm American...
The goverments: force you to pay tax
also goverments: oh shit, lets fucking build a giant duck for no reason
