I would look into some [aftermarket headlights (google link).](https://www.google.com/search?q=2013+vw+passat+aftermarket+headlights&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjj6rHj6MD6AhUunGoFHVuMAXUQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=2013+vw+passat+aftermarket+headlights&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIECAAQGDoECCMQJzoGCAAQHhAIOgcIIxCwAhAnOggIABAeEAgQDToFCAAQogQ6BAgeEAo6BQghEKsCOgcIIRAKEKsCUMMVWPg1YNU3aAdwAHgBgAGPAogBgxKSAQY4LjExLjGYAQCgAQHAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=WiI5Y-PVCq64qtsP25iGqAc&bih=751&biw=428&prmd=isvn&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS1024US1024&hl=en-US) The stock headlights are pretty dull and boring. Some nice LED lights with a neat design would look cool.

if only a set wasnt like 600$

cheesyrefriedbeans

They're 16 years old and own a $12K car. I know I shouldn't assume but I'm guessing either she or her parents can afford a $600 mod.

Can you get the rear side windows and the back window tinted? Is that legal in your state? I always thought a white car with dark tinted windows looked sharp.

Traditional_Yard5280

I can in this state! I agree, and have figured out in the past few days I thought maybe some decals for a white/black design with a bit of a stormtrooper look, like imperial emblems and slightly dorky things lol

Mundane-Nectarine-48

Speaking of the stormtrooper look in a way, I wonder how the grill would look if it was blacked out? If you use that black plasti dip spray, you could always peel it off if you didn't like it.

Traditional_Yard5280

Oooooo amazing idea, maybe some blacked out lights as well?

Mundane-Nectarine-48

I like the look of blacked out lights. But there you might run into legal trouble. Plus when you put tint on the lights, you might be covering up reflectors, brake lights or other things that keep people from runnung into you. And if you can the headlight lenses, it will reduce the amount of light you have to see at night. Like I said, I love the look, but unfortunately it's not the best choice safety-wise or ticket-wise. If you want to spend $1,200-ish, a nice looking set of wheels can really make a car look awesome. But realistically, you're looking at $150 or more per wheel, plus about the same per tire... Might be a bigger investment than you want to make, understandably. But another option on that is to see if you can find a set of used Volkswagen wheels that catch your eye & that will fit your car. Some Golf R wheels would probably fit. It's quite possible that a set of used Volkswagen rims with tires would be cheaper than new aftermarket ones. Edited for typo

Traditional_Yard5280

I get the legality But rims? Could I possibly paint existing ones or should just get older rims? I'm not quite sure. Ik i couldnt sell these current ones... they arent very pretty

Mundane-Nectarine-48

You can certainly paint your rims! And if you use that same plasti-dip removable paint per the instructions, you should be able to peel it off and return it to the stock look if you wanted to. Personally, I think a nice hematite (dark gray metallic color) might look like a million bucks. I don't think that painting them pure black would look good though. I think it might make it look like you have the old cheap steel wheels on it. But it is certainly up to you!

Traditional_Yard5280

Thank you very much! But might buy a different set of rims (probably old vws) and put summer tires on it, and use the current rims for winter time.

Mundane-Nectarine-48

That's good idea if you can afford to do that. I did that on one of my cars. It is a lot easier /cheaper in the long run because it: 1 Splits the wear between your summer and winter tires - only have to replace each set about half as often. 2. Protects your summer wheels from roat salt / sand / cinders. 3. In a pinch you'll have a full size spare for short term use from the opposite season tires. 4. If you have the basic tools and know how to remove / install wheels you can swap them yourself 2x a year. Keep in mind, too, that OEM wheels from other brands *might fit* your car. It takes some research to be 100% sure. But for example I'm running 17" *Subaru WRX STI* wheels on my '13 Mazda, and have winter tires on the stock 16" Mazda wheels. If you're not already a member of a few Volkswagen forums and search for information about wheel fitment / what wheels fit your car. Many people swap wheels! And on a non-reddit forum you might find some good deals in their marketplace section.

I have a 2018, which arguably, already looks better than the duller 2013. R-line at that. That being said - I bought and installed [this](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5YE5UO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) and it took the look of my car to a completely different level

Traditional_Yard5280

Oh, very neat... but I already have that from factory lol. Thank you though!

DoubleReputation2

Oh really?! Awesome! Wonder why mine didn't come with it, you'd imagine, if anything, it would be part of the R-line package.. oh well.. What color is yours? We're looking for 2013 or 2014 for my dad right now, really like the maroon ones.

Traditional_Yard5280

Nope base model S, 2013 in white. Maybe the prior owners bought it?

DoubleReputation2

It could be that the prior owner bought it, or it was optioned at the dealer when new.. If it was like $75... Ufff.. I My dad hates white cars, I swear if I found an RR Phantom for $5k he would go "Ew it's white"..

If you'd like to see a forum that shows a lot of things you probably *do not want to do* to your car, check out r/Shitty_Car_Mods 😁 Edited to add emphasis
